How do I take a screenshot on my iPhone?
Direct Answer
Press the Side button on the right side of your phone and the Volume Up button on the left side at the same time, then immediately let go.
⚡ 10-Second Quick Answer
Follow the fast 1-2 button instructions below. No extra setup required.
How to Do It in 1 or 2 Taps
-
1
Squeeze the Side button and Volume Up button together
Put one finger on the single button on the right side of your phone (the Side button) and another finger on the top volume button on the left side. (If your newer phone has a small Action button above the volume buttons, do not press it — press the upper volume button below it). Squeeze both buttons together for one second and let go immediately.
👀 Right side: Side button. Left side: Upper volume button.

2
Watch for the screen flash
Your screen will flash white for a split second (and make a camera shutter click sound if your sound is on). That means your phone successfully took the picture.

3
Find your picture in the Photos app
Tap the Photos app on your home screen (the colorful pinwheel flower icon). Your new screenshot is saved right at the bottom of your recent photos.

Still Not Working? 2 Quick Things to Check
If your iPhone has a round button at the bottom (Home button, like iPhone SE, 8, 7)
Press the Side button on the right and the round Home button at the bottom at the exact same time, then quickly release both.
If your phone asks you to "Slide to Power Off"
You held the buttons down too long. Tap "Cancel" at the bottom of the screen and try again with a fast, 1-second squeeze and release.
If only the volume slider appeared on the side
You pressed the volume button a split second before the side button. Just squeeze both buttons at the exact same moment.
