Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a protocol used in a network for selection of routes of different packets. It is an open standard dynamic routing protocol which cannot be related to a specific vendor. The latest version of RIP is RIP v2 with advanced features like it supports VLSM (variable length subnet masking) and also transmit routing updates with subnet mask information.
To enable passwords, configure hostname, then configure console from the global configuration mode.
To prevent the router from interrupting the command you are typing use the second command. If you are interrupted with a logging message while you are in the middle of typing a command, it can be very disturbing as we want the router to display a message but not in the middle of entering a data. To prevent it, the command is logging synchronous and it is done as:-
            a.         R1 (config) #line console0
            b.         R1 (config – line) # exec – timeout 0 0
            c.         R1 (config – line) # logging synchronous

These commands will not be seen in the exams but once configured, one wonders how he did it without them. These tips will give you a precise way of getting configured your router at initial level easily.
