After finalising the disaster recovery plan it needs to be tested because if it is left to its own after finalization without testing the problems may occur in actual situation which can lead to loss of your valuable data, applications and stored information

While testing the disaster recovery plan it is advised to test it till application level because these are most vital and difficult to recover. Although servers are also important but due to their multi tier infra structure they are interdependent in nature and are easier to be recovered as compared to application level. If application level is not tested it can lead to serious damage.
Usually back ups are used to prevent data loss during the disaster recover and tape back up plan is still considered most important in organizations. Usually the recovery is made off site another effective and costly solution is replication of your Wide Area Network which not so common due to its non affordable nature .
Often organizations neglect the need of development of disaster recovery plan and do not encourage data protection programs to cut the cost which can result in greater damage in actual situations of serious disasters and data losses. So, organizations have to play with either integrate the data disaster recovery program up til application level and absorb the cost or bear or live with risks of being vulnerable to possible data loss.
