Computer Software Overview
The rules, codes, programs along with written documentation on how to read write them often referred to as soft wares. The term soft ware is not only restricted with the the use of computers only rather it encompasses a variety of gadgets such as automobiles,cellular phones,micro waves, television,toasters etc. The term soft ware in modern world is broader and covers all scripting and programming language that are used to device operating systems of various devices.
The program is referred as soft because it can only be seen and can not be touched physically and defines the various job commands and descriptions that your device, machine or computer can perform. There are multiple ways you can install soft wares on your computer. The basic soft wares or operating systems are present as default when you purchase you computers. The other way is to insert the CD in your disk drivers and through add remove programs you can browse, install and run the specific software.
Most other soft wares that are common in use and are open source are freely available on the world wide web or Internet, you just need to download and run them in order to use them. The computer software is mainly a set of commands in machine language that communicates with computer and tells it how to perform a certain task such as in which format the JPEG image will be opened and how to display it. Some of the examples of software are operating systems of Microsoft such as Windows Vista or Hyper Text Mark Up Language, PHP, ASP.Net and Extend able Hyper Text Mark Up Language.

- Operating Systems
The application soft wares are task specific other than generic in nature. They are installed to perform certain job by computer rather than helping computer in running. The media players are one example of application soft wares that help computer to play audio and video files and sometimes in recording as well. Sometimes the application soft wares are also installed to run certain hard ware through your computer such as printers are installed to take prints from your machine. The application soft wares are meant to act indirectly with the system.
The other and most basic type of soft ware is operating system that usually comes installed by default in your computers and is important to run your computer smoothly. The most common example of basic function supported by operating system is movement of cursor on screen. Some of the popular operating systems are Mac, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista and LINUX and UNIX.
All the hardware of computer needs software to provide command to it for functioning because they can not interact directly. The soft ware is required to manage and control the hardware related and attached to the system. That is why in order to make your computer system work efficiently and effectively hard ware and soft ware both play an equally important role.
