Computer Hardware Overview
Computer hardware can be referred to as external and internal physical parts that make up the computer. The internal physical parts of computer are commonly known as components while the external parts are frequently called as peripherals. Both the internal and external parts are collectively called as computer hardware.
Some of the examples of internal parts or components are
-
Mother board : The main part of hardware that provides place to connect other components such as RAM and CPU is known as motherboard. It usually comes with LAN port , sound and graphic card. As, it act as the support place for other components it is of prime importance that mother board should be of high quality.
-
Central Processing Unit: The speed of the system depends upon the central processing unit other than hard disk and random access memory. Dual core computers are speedy as compared to single core computers.
-
RAM: RAM is an abbreviation for Random Access Memory and these are physical chips where data is stored temporary. Greater the RAM or physical memory of the computer greater will be processing speed.
Hard Drives: These are the drives that store the data permanently unlike the RAM which deletes data with the shut down of computer. The capacity to save the data is usually measured in Gigabytes when it comes to hard drive.
Graphic Card: The role of graphic card is to properly display the images on the monitor. Usually people who want to play games need better resolution and image display so they install higher quality core duo graphic cards other than the basic cards on central processing unit.
Optical Drives: Optical drives refer to CD ROM or DVD ROM where ROM stands for read only memory. The CD and DVD writers also are termed as optical drives. They copy data on DVDS and CDs. The most latest technology in optical drives is Blu-ray technology which means it can read Blu-Ray CDs and DVDs. As it is expensive it does not come built in rather people purchase them separately and equip there systems according to need.
Some of the examples of external parts or peripherals are
-
Monitor: The visual display unit that display the images that are generated in result of graphic cards installation. The latest monitors in town that are both power savers and cheap to manufacture with high resolution are LCD’s and range in sizes from fifteen inches to seventy inches.
-
Keyboard: It is external hardware device that is used to give commands and enter data and text into the monitor and CPU.
-
Mouse: Mouse is also an external device to click and give commands on monitor screen and usually comes with rolling ball but now with optical sensors using infra red technology.
-
Computer Casing: The sensitive hardware of computer is usually installed inside of hard peripheral that provides protection. It is important to have openings in case to protect the system from over heating.
Power Supply Unit: The power supply unit of the computer is the part that results in providing life to computer. All the other parts are supplied power due to this unit. If compromised on quality one’s machine may suffer from electric shock or under current that ultimately destroys the sensitive internal hardware.
These hardware parts will provide you the basic composition of your system and how to look after it.
